On the topic of leather restoration…

In my experiences repairing vintage test and telecom equipment I’ve into issues with dried out leather/rubber items, mainly belts, idlers, handles and straps. A really simple and inexpensive way to restore most all of these leathers involves cleaning with saddle soap to remove any surface dirt/oils and a few applications of conditioner to restore the moisture.

Western Electric L1 Teletrainer Repair – Intro

Here is a peek of the repair rare thrift store find. Gotta love that W.E. Green!!! I took the two knobs off since one came broken and I am wondering if I should try and cast a new knob to replace the OG one. Also someone at the thrift store plugged this in and 100% sure the multi cap dried and shorted out. It’s insides were coated in potting material fumes. The transformer shows dead short, so I am hoping that it was not totally wrecked from a meltdown.

Stay tuned and take care of each other.
