On the topic of leather restoration…

In my experiences repairing vintage test and telecom equipment I’ve into issues with dried out leather/rubber items, mainly belts, idlers, handles and straps. A really simple and inexpensive way to restore most all of these leathers involves cleaning with saddle soap to remove any surface dirt/oils and a few applications of conditioner to restore the moisture.

I have been really surprised at how much this works..

Here is what I used:

Grass Inst. Photo Stimulator PS3 (Flash Warning)

Grass Inst. Photo Stimulator

I was able to mate the base with a genuine handheld flash head unit. It needed a bit of a clean up and a new Chinch-Jones plug connector, but it works!! Now I wonder what this external control and external monitor outputs are…

Cassette Cable Fixed!

I have this modded cassette player that skipping steps for some reason. In the end I replaced the modded cable with some HQ console cable. It fixed the problem.

I really like finding cassettes with odd sounds on them. Like these odd background audio tapes and the ones found in really old telephone answering machine outgoing loop tapes.
